Peg Houser

Statement

I have been an artist my whole life. In fact, I do not remember a time when I was not an artist. However, I did a lot of searching before I found the perfect medium for my interest and love of fine detail and precision. I am still having the most wonderful time learning new techniques and creating new patterns. I know that I will be a lifelong learner when it comes to my art, but that is what makes the experience so fulfilling.
The beads speak to me. They have a lovely tactile quality which is soothing when I have them in my hands. The beads also have the most wonderful visual qualities of color and luminosity, which makes me happy just to look a them. I love glass beads and natural gemstone beads. They all have their own unique characteristics, just like people.
I am inspired by the beads themselves. Most of the time when I create, I star pulling out different colors and finishes of beads and let them speak to me.

Techniques & Media

Beads, off loom bead weaving, bead embroidery

Education & Training

I have a B.S. in Art Education from Edinboro University. My graduate work was all in Education. All the materials I chose to work with have brought me to a level of comfort and confidence to explore a new medium. I was lucky enough to take one beading class from Maggie Meister who encouraged me to continue when I wasn’t sure I was on the right path.
